CAM 2012 Preview
When the Ballet Ruse premiered the Rite of Spring in 1913 the depiction of a young girl dancing herself to death raised a scandal. It wasn't just the topic of pagan sacrifice that raised a stink; Igor Stravinsky's score filled with complex polyrhythms and dissonant sounds gave the audience the heebie-jeebies. Local dancer and choreographer Britt Lorraine will enact a remake of the notorious work in a solo eight-hour performance at the Triangle Building, beginning 6 p.m. Friday, March 23. The project received an Artist Foundation Grant in 2009; costumes, props, and music are provided by collaborating artists, including Peter Zubiate, Angelina Mata, and Kristy Perez. Dance all night? No euphemism, she intends to go the distance. $15 donation suggested; 6pm Fri, Mar 23- 2am Sat, Mar 24; Isunza Studios at the Triangle Building, 1501 S Flores, (210) 865-8091, isunzastudios.com.
