1. TIE: David Robinson/George Strait
The pairing of David Robinson and the still-active Tim Duncan gave San Antonio its first two NBA championship rings and, like Duncan, Robinson is the perfect Saytown hero: classy on and off the field, low-profile, and scandal-free. He’s a loveable guy even if he hadn’t won two NBA championships, two gold medals (and one bronze) at the Olympics, and one World championship, among a long list of achievements. He is also one of only five players in history to score a quadruple double (34 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists, and 10 blocks against Detroit in ’94). Take that, Charles Barkley.
No one in history (in any genre, any chart) has had more number one singles than George Strait (59, to be exact), and only Elvis and the Beatles have more number one albums than him. The Poteet native singer, songwriter, actor, and producer’s 28th album, Love is Everything, is out May 14. After selling more than 70 million albums, Strait is still swingin’, and swingin’ strong.
