1. Traders Village
9333 SW Loop 410 , (210) 623-8383, tradersvillage.com

Advertised as a “swap meet, treasure hunt, shopping complex, county fair, and festival attraction all rolled into one,” Traders Village is a sprawling flea market on steroids, orbiting around an 80-foot high carnival ride dubbed Star Dancer. Once through the “Toll Plaza” ($2 per car) and parked in the seemingly endless lot, the behemoth can be tackled from a number of angles. With a reported 1,000 vendors, the often empty promise “something for everyone” could be true here — especially if you’re in the market for Flying Super Grover ($20); gag rolls of Sticky Buns, Burning Sensation, and Itchy Butt toilet paper ($3); a pink zebra-print Playboy comforter ($40); or a stun gun (layaway available!). Beyond these temptations, there’s plenty to keep young’uns occupied (including pony rides, a petting zoo, and an arcade) plus street food, beer and aguas frescas, and periodic events like roller derby bouts, car shows, and boxing matches.
