ON THE COVER The elections are just one tiny far off corner of the SA voter's amygdala. That won't keep us from making the ballot cerebral. Cover illustration by Beto Gonzales. Hello my greetings to you. I’m just writing to let you know that I received the S.A. Current issue and thank you for it. I also want to thank you for the fine article you’ve written on our behalf here. `“Crossed off and barred,” April 11-17.` My (our) second appeal to the DRC was denied (end of March) and I’m sure at the warden’s recommendation due to the personal history between him and the guy my brother spoke to that evening at visitation. I don’t know if the article means the end of the investigation but I will send it as well as the info to contact you to my brother as he may choose to contact you since our second appeal has been denied and to find out if any other actions can be taken to combat the excessive and unwarranted abuse of authority again. Thanks. Derrick J., Huntsville WEB COMMENTS Re: Best of San Antonio 2007 Enjoy local restaurants San Antonio! How can major commercial industrial strength sandwich shops make the “Best Sandwich” list? What about the W.D. Deli? What about that deli on the Riverwalk? There are so many other places to grab an interesting sandwich, what about your local taqueria? The tortas you can find will far outclass anything found at your local “fast food” joint, and, will probably be easier to wait for... Best 24 Hour Restaurant? No Pigstand, no Lulu’s, no Mi Tierra? Taco Garage is open 24 hours on the weekend, as is Las Salsas, it’s easy to find something better, tastier, and made with much more pura vida San Antonio than the afore questioned industrial hogs. Best Starbucks? Is there such a thing....? Roast Your Own Coffee Beans San Antonio…! Best Seafood? What about Sandbar? Waterstreet Oyster Bar? What about The Dry Dock Oyster Bar? There are so many places to have great seafood at great locally owned restaurants by great friendly people, many of whom are natives of San Antonio and include a kick to the food you won’t find at a corporate restaurant. Best Margarita, Chili’s? Absolutely not, what about a prickly pear margarita at The Zuni Grill? There are far better margaritas to be found than at Chacho and Chalucci’s, and at quieter restaurants, they haven’t quite gotten the sports bar atmosphere down yet... Best Chinese Takeout, not Pei Wei or PF Changs, the local Chinese restaurant down the srteet is cheaper, and you usually find the strengths of those places fairly quickly instead of finding the weaknesses later.
