Pro-Basketball has been news in San Antonio as far back as 1973, and if you ever find yourself on the sixth floor of the Central Library, they have the microfilm to prove it. Spurs lore is built on names like Silas, Gervin, and Gilmore, and these days the San Antonio franchise has ample championship rings and future hall of famers to back up its nostalgic ABA pedigree. Despite the formation of the new 3-6-Mafia in Miami and yet another budding Lakers dynasty in Los Angeles, this Spurs team still holds a puncher’s chance of winning a fifth title.
This brings us to Spuriosity, a blog dedicated to covering the Spurs, the extended NBA, and the intersections of hoops and hip-hop inherent therein. Since the Big Three of Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili, and Tony Parker are still decked out in silver and black Adidas jerseys and Coach Pop is at the helm, it should be a promising season. With youngsters like DeJuan Blair, Tiago Splitter and George Hill waiting in the wings, this could also be the season that youth, much like royalty, is fully served.
