was particularly exciting as it was a first for San Antonio, thanks to the Aveda Institute at the Pearl Brewery. With emcee Rita Verreos of CBS’s Survivor, "Catwalk for Water" raised funds and awareness for clean water to benefit the Gulf Coast Restoration Network and Global Greengrants Fund. Models wore fashions from Adelante Boutique, as well as the unique designs of Janet Jones, Gwynee Harris, and Ashel Patrel.
Every year Aveda celebrates Earth Day for a whole month by raising funds and supporting projects around the world through events such as Catwalk for Water. If you missed it last Saturday, you won’t want to miss Aveda’s Walk for Water to be held at the Aveda Institute at the Pearl Brewery on April 10. Registration begins at 9 am, and the walk commences at downtown’s beautiful museum reach extension. The six-kilometer trek honors women in developing countries, as they must walk an average six kilometers themselves just to reach clean water every day (United Nations Human Development Report, 2008). According to Aveda, every 21 seconds a child dies from a lack of clean water, and we have the power to make a change. Beneficiaries include The Lower Mississippi Riverkeeper and the Gulf Coast Restoration Network.
Can’t make it out on April 10? Aveda also sends a portion of their proceeds to support clean water efforts. To become an Aveda Water Warrior, just visit their website and Book an appointment for the Earth or buy an Earth Month Candle.
