Pick of the Day: Puro Conjuntazzo

Before you put on your hat and boots, let me warn you: this conjunto party is, uh, different, but it should be a lot of fun. Qué Padre (pictured, with Chuck Hernández on a stand-up bass that at times becomes a cello) and Eric Rosales (classical guitar) have a crazy mix of hip-hop, boleros, rancheras, and country, and accordionist Mark Weber “El Tacuache,” accompanied by Los Cuernos (“The Horns”) will do their own sacrilegious version of the José Alfredo Jiménez classic ranchera “El Rey” (which they called “El Güey”). Pop Pistol gamely accepted the invitation to play and might offer a few surprises, while DJ Plata (Eddie Hernández from Sexto Sol) will spin cumbia, techno-cumbia, funk, soul, old school low-rider classics, and more. All the proceeds benefit San Anto Cultural Arts. $3; 10pm Fri, Sep 7; Hi-Tones, 621 E. Dewey, (210) 573-6220. Check out our full online calendar of upcoming events here: calendar.sacurrent.com.
