This is one of the most exciting offerings of the free Échale series: Brooklyn’s 11-piece Antibalas (pictured) is an unpredictable Afro-funk powerhouse. Their latest self-titled album (released in August) might remind you of Fela Kuti, but it’s only one of the band’s many shades. Nine-piece Brownout is the funky alter ego of Grupo Fantasma, and Oozy (released in April) added vocals to their original all-instrumental mix. Both bands are at their best on a live setting, and don’t be fooled by whoever opens the show: This is a night of two headliners. Heads-up: in the next chapter of the series, Mexican Carla Morrison (Latin alternative’s hottest singer-songwriter) and LA’s La Santa Cecilia, both Latin Grammy-nominated, will headline the series on November 2. Free; 5pm Sun, Oct 14, Pearl Amphitheater, 200 E Grayson, atpearl.com. Check out our full online calendar of upcoming events here: calendar.sacurrent.com.
