Marie

A search for a lot pet becomes a “transformative quest” in Have You Seen Marie?, the latest from revered author Sandra Cisneros, who founded SA’s Macondo Foundation and is widely celebrated for the novel The House on Mango Street. Exploring grief, healing, and the power of love, the short story follows Sandra and her friend Roz on a search for a missing tuxedo cat named Marie. Using historic King William as a backdrop, the touching tale comes to life in vivid illustrations by San Francisco-based Chicana artist Ester Hernández, whose work can also be seen in the McNay’s “Estampas de la Raza.” On Sunday afternoon, Cisneros continues a decade-long collaboration with Jump-Start with a staged reading of her “fable for grownups” set to live music by Rodolfo López and followed by a signing with both author and illustrator. $10-$50; 5pm Sun, Nov 11; The Sterling Houston Theater at Jump-Start, 108 Blue Star, (210) 227-5867, jump-start.org.
