Formerly known as The Hi-Tones, Austin-based psych-rock outfit Obscured by Echoes cites “the supernatural, space, the unknown, art of all mediums, and life and all that comes with it” as influences. In a review of their new album Black Matter Manifesto — set for an ironic release on cassette tape in addition to vinyl and CD formats — The Deli Magazine likened the band’s melange of hypnotic synths, trembling guitars, “slightly-unconventional melodic lines,” and reverbed vocals to early Pink Floyd, closing with, “We don’t know what they’re on, but we want some.” The Edgar Allan Poe enthusiasts play Boneshakers’ Post Xmas Psychfest with like-minded support from experimental duo The Nat’l Parks, indie outfit Reverie Control, and DIY trio Micro Missile Control. $5; 9pm Fri, Dec 28; Boneshakers Tap House and Pizzeria, 306 Austin, (210) 319-8155, boneshakersonline.com.
