The members of Metalachi (“the world’s first and only heavy metal mariachi band”) claim they were conceived simultaneously while their mother Consuela Espinosa was high on horse tranquilizers with a jai alai team in a Super Ocho motel in Veracruz. The lead singer made news when a tranny prostitute handcuffed him to a tree; the guitarist lost his virginity to a carne asada burrito named Lucinda; and the trumpet player plans to build an instrument capable of rendering Lady Gaga powerless. Dressed in lit-up sombreros and Kiss-worthy costumes allegedly made by child factory workers paid in Chiclets and tacos, the band may look like a gimmick, but the tight mariachi spin they put on classics by Ozzy, Metallica, and Iron Maiden has been described as both “groundbreaking” and an “all-out sonic fiesta so wrong it can only be right.” $10; 8pm Fri, Jan 18; The Tequila Rock Bar at Backstage Live, 1305 E Houston, (210) 698-2856, backstagelivesa.com.
