Do you yearn for the grungy glory days of alt-rock radio? That simpler, cargo-shorted, tip-frosted time before the airwaves were muddled by plastic club music and hip-pop? Well even though Marcy Playground, Candlebox, and Hootie and the Blowfish may have faded, Matchbox Twenty are here to keep the dream alive. Of course lumping leader Rob Thomas and crew in with the rest of the alt-rock horde is more than a little unfair. Twenty were a juggernaut in their heyday, putting up Garth Brooks numbers in record sales and posting nearly a dozen chart hits. And while their momentum subsided along fortunes of alt-rock, Thomas’ relatively successful solo career and a best-of compilation put new wind in the band’s sails. This would lead to North, the band’s first full-length in a decade, and a 4-for-4 record of chart-topping releases. $40-$95; 7:30pm Wed, Jan 30; The Majestic Theatre, 224 E Houston, (210) 226-3333, majesticempire.com.
