Its official medal may celebrate gowns fit for a duchess, but The Cutting Edge Fiesta Fashion Show often departs from the traditional shapes, fabrics, and colors of the season as it showcases the creative talents of seniors attending the fashion design program at University of the Incarnate Word. The culmination of a year of sketching, pattern-making, fittings, and critiques with educators and industry pros, the annual event puts into practice skills taught in capstone courses. Every aspect of the production — from the booking of models to the sound and lighting design — is handled by students. Featuring the top six looks from each young designer’s original collection of 12 sketches, The Cutting Edge has been known to traverse the fashion spectrum to explore aspects of both sophistication and the avant-garde. $75 (includes lunch), $25 (show only), 10:30am-1:30pm, Marriott Rivercenter, 101 Bowie, (210) 829-6013, uiw.edu/cuttingedge.
