A nominee for Best Documentary at last year's European Film Awards, London: The Modern Babylon reaches back to the dawn of film to explore London through archival footage and the voices of Londoners past and present, powered by the flow of popular music across the century. Directed by Julien Temple (The Great Rock 'n' Roll Swindle, The Sex Pistols: There'll Always Be An England, The Secret Policeman's Other Ball), the documentary culminates last summer as London prepares to welcome the world to the 2012 Olympics. Nelson George's All Hail the Beat (a three-minute short about the the Roland TR-808 drum machine) precedes the film, screened in conjunction with the inaugural Docurama film series. $9.50, 7pm Wednesday, Alamo Drafthouse Westlakes, 1255 SW Loop 410, (210) 677-8500, drafthouse.com Check out our full online calendar of upcoming events here: calendar.sacurrent.com.
