Blue Star Contemporary Art Museum has named Steven Evans as consulting manager to the Southtown arts hub. Evans will work with the board of directors to revamp Blue Star's strategic plan, and manage daily operations. Blue Star is currently without a director, since Bill FitzGibbons stepped down from the leadership role this week. Evans, who served as the director of the Linda Pace Foundation from 2010-2012, spent 20 years with the Dia Art Foundation, and was the first managing director of Dia: Beacon.
“We are excited to have Steven as a part of the Blue Star team. His strong background and experience as an art administrator and curator makes him a perfect fit for our organization,” said Edward Valdespino, Blue Star board chair.
In addition to his experience in arts administration, Evans is a practicing artist. He attended Phillips Exeter Academy, Atlanta College of Art (now Savannah College of Art and Design), and Nova Scotia College of Art & Design where he received Bachelor and Masters degrees in Fine Arts, respectively.
“"I am so enthusiastic to be working with the Board, staff, and artists of Blue Star Contemporary Art Museum. I have long admired Blue Star - San Antonio’s longest-running venue devoted exclusively to new art – and I believe enormously in its vital mission to inspire creativity," said Evans.
