210|West Gallery Talk: “Art, Chicana Identity and Narrative”
Named after the Alamo City's area code as well as the Briscoe's street address, 210|West Gallery Talks shine a monthly spotlight on artists, scholars and tastemakers as they explore works unique to the West. Timed with Downtown Tuesday (offering free parking at city-operated garages, lots and meters from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m.), the series' latest chapter features the artists of the multimedia Chicana collective Más Rudas (painter Ruth Buentello, filmmaker Kristin Gamez, photographer Mari Hernandez and textile artist Sarah Castillo), who'll create a site specific project within the context of the museum. Azar Nafisi: “The Republic of the Imagination”
In celebration of the 10th anniversary of Trinity University Press, Iranian-American author Azar Nafisi (known for the international best-seller Reading Lolita in Tehran) presents a talk exploring human rights, women’s education in the Middle East and literature as a tool of social change.
