Dear die-hard Spurs fans and passionate patrons of local art, delight in knowing this: the Manu Ginobili veladoras designed by local artist Jamie Stolarski are available, legitimately, at Pulquerios and Etsy for $11.95, with profits going to the Spurs fan artist himself. Win-win-win-win.
Remember the bullshit the Current previously addressed when merchants were making bucks off the Stolarski design, without attributing him.
Sure, of course, you can always grab the pdf here and DIY your own. But there is a crowd of us who cheer-cringe: DIY–you! (not DIM, do-it-myself; I don't have time for that).
Don’t forget the inspiration behind these candles, as the Spurs Nation headline echoes: “Ginobili Seeking Finals Atonement.” In last year’s finals, the Spurs won Game 1 (as they did Thursday), and Manu Ginobili flexed one the best performances of his career in Game 5, followed in Game 6 by one of his worst (eight turnovers and missing a critical free throw in the last seconds).
In Game 7, Ginobili scored 18 points and flubbed four turnovers. Put your heart there for a minute; feel the dejection from his side. (Remember Ray Allen: “Get those mother-fucking ropes out of here!”) It was reported that Ginobili was so disheartened, he contemplated retirement. Who wouldn’t? But, he didn't leave the game, and he's back.
It’s a candle, but not just any candle, it’s a vela. Pick one up and light it.
