Cocktail Rebel Celebrates The 1950's With Booze, Bites And Bombshell Beauties

  • San Antonio Current
The San Antonio Current is improving everything great about the 1950's with alcohol.

We're taking over the McNay Art Museum on Friday, July 24 for Cocktail Rebel, a boozy blast that celebrates a decade defined by rock-n-roll and teenage rebellion. So start hunting for some cool, retro threads to recreate that iconic greaser, rockabilly or 50's pin-up look.

Bartenders from 15 of San Antonio's hippest joints will mixing up booze for our craft cocktail competition, while 15 restaurants dish out tasty bites to help you soak up those swanky pours. This year's bar and restaurant line-up includes popular hotspots such as TBA, Juniper Tar, George's Keep, Concrete Jungle, Citrus, Folc, The Box Street Social, La Frite Belgian Bistro and more. The House in Southtown is also hosting a boozy ice cream social, so you can split a milkshake with your steady before you sneak off to the parking lot to play back seat bingo.

Cocktail Rebel promises to be a complete retro experience. Hang out and play classic arcade and board games, billiards and more courtesy of Slackers Sports Bar, or oggle the bombshell beauties of Pastie Pops as they titillate party-goers with their burlesque tease. You can also dress up that nest on top of your head our 50's style barber and beauty bar.

Once you're good and liquored up, rock around the clock — or at least until midnight — with sounds courtesy of Sean Castillo Trio, Texas T & The Shine Runners, Ruby Alexander and more.

If you're not at the McNay on July 24, you're spending your Friday night with the wet rags in Squaresville. So channel your favorite 50's icon — be it James Dean, Buddy Holly or Bettie Page — as you pick out your party duds, and purchase your tickets to one of the most anticipated Current parties of the year.
