Esai Morales - one of the celebrities in attendance - in 'Mi Familia'
To celebrate the underrepresented Latino film industry, the 38th Annual CineFestival announces their final lineup, including their opening night special event. Taking place at the Guadalupe Theater, which also acts as a cultural and artistic hub, the festival, unique to San Antonio, will feature eight days of films – regional, national and international – filmmaker Q&A sessions and panels.
Taking place on February 19, the festival's inaugural event will combat the current #OscarsSoWhite issue with the Mi Familia Family Reunion, the 1995 film about a Mexican-American family who emigrated from Mexico to Los Angeles. The critically acclaimed film will be screened and followed by a Q&A with Esai Morales, Jacob Vargas and Elpidia Carillo, stars of the movie, and moderated by SA-born actor Jesse Borrego.
The screening of the lauded Los Punks: We Are All We Have on Friday, February 26th will be the second time the film about LA's underground Latino punk scene has been shown to the public.
The times and dates for the additional lineup are listed below. The full schedule of events can be found here.
Friday, February 19 at 7pm Mi Familia Family Reunion
Thursday, February 25 at 8:30pm Washington Heights with director in attendance.
