With National Poetry Month upon us, you’ll no doubt find yourself with a full slate of poetry events and literary happenings with which to usher in your spring on a contemplative note. One of the most special and talent-stacked of these events, presented by URBAN-15 with support from the Texas Commission on the Arts, is the fifth annual Mega Corazón.

The eight-hour poetry extravaganza will feature a large and diverse group of poets, beginning with three hours of youth-focused poetry and poetry from young people. While the full schedule of readers for this marathon celebration of poetic expression is not yet available, notable poets confirmed to read include Dr. Carmen Tafolla (former San Antonio and Texas Poet Laureate), Octavio Quintanilla (newly announced San Antonio Poet Laureate), Jim LaVilla-Havelin, Bryce Milligan, Andrea “Vocab” Sanderson, John Philip Santos, Natalia Treviño and Jessica Tilton-Zertuche.

The poets of Mega Corazón comprise a diverse cross-section of poetic modes, performance styles, influences and generations. Arguably the best thing about Mega Corazón is that, in the true spirit of poetry’s transcendent call, the entire thing is available to everyone. Those unable to attend the physical event can stream it at urban15.org/live-stream.

Free, Mon April 2, 1-9pm, URBAN-15 Studio, 2500 S. Presa St., (210) 736-1500, urban15.org/live-stream.
