Lone Star District Hosting Family-Friendly Parade, Picnic Celebrating 20th Anniversary

  • Lone Star Neighborhood Association
As a celebration of both the neighborhood’s 20th anniversary and the city’s Tricentennial, the Lone Star Neighborhood Association is throwing a fun, family-friendly party. It all kicks off with a parade down Lone Star Boulevard, for which the Grand Marshall will be Henry Peña of KEDA “The Jalapeno” Radio. While the first half of the parade is more serious in tenor, featuring a Memorial Day Tribute to neighborhood resident and Medal of Honor recipient William James Bordelon and a Veteran’s Marching Group, the second half gets wackier and invites community participation.

Many of our city’s arts organizations, especially those with a youth focus, will be participating, along with other area businesses and community groups. After the parade concludes at Roosevelt Park, the second half of the event, the picnic, begins. The picnic portion will include hot dogs, nachos, beverages and other assorted goodies, as well as live music, poetry readings, dance performances and activities for kids aplenty. Pro tip: don’t forget the sunscreen and picnic blanket.

Free, Sat May 26 10am (parade begins at S. Flores St. and Lone Star Blvd.), Roosevelt Park (picnic following parade), 331 Roosevelt Ave.
