Locals with an abiding interest in Arabic society, culture and literature may not find too many opportunities, outside of our city’s fine libraries, to pursue their passion. This Thursday’s talk then provides an exciting opportunity for engagement.

This in-depth lecture — delivered by Dr. Suzanne Stetkevych of Georgetown University, a renowned expert on the topic — will focus on the beauty, technical prowess and legacy of the Arabic poetic tradition. With a scope as wide as “Love and Politics,” coupled with the long and rich history of Arabic poetry, Stetkevych will have her hands full as she seeks to illuminate how poetry can, across cultures, facilitate, investigate, preserve, and interrogate both social and personal modes of meaning and of being.

Free, Thu Jun 21, 5:30pm, Mexican Cultural Institute, 600 Hemisfair Plaza Way, wacofsa.org/events.
