One of the true gems in the history of films about music or made by musicians, Yellow Submarine, starring and inspired by the music of The Beatles, was written by Lee Minoff, directed by George Dunning and boasts wonderfully trippy animation created by a host of stoned animators on both sides of the pond. The beloved children’s fantasy/comedy, based directly on music from the Fab Four, came out 50 years ago this month.

In celebration of this momentous anniversary, the Bijou is hosting a limited screening event for the seminal 1968 movie. Fun for the whole family and an unforgettable theater experience for any true Beatles fan, Yellow Submarine hearkens to a simpler time when even the cool kids were able to enjoy the innocent pleasures of a silly vanity project like this. It’s highly recommended that you buy your tickets for this one ASAP, as it will likely sell out. And, be on guard for the Blue Meanies!

$10, Mon July 9, 7pm, Santikos Bijou, 4522 Fredericksburg Road, (210) 734-4552, santikos.com/san-antonio/bijou.
