During a media day for the Toronto Raptors, former Spur Kawhi Leonard had a few words to say about his time in San Antonio.
Tom Orsborn of the San Antonio Express-News
was at the team's media day,
and didn't let Leonard's drama with the Spurs go unmentioned
. Orsborn asked Leonard what went wrong in San Antonio. Did he lose faith in the Spurs' medical team? Was he disappointed in the outcome? Did he have any regrets?
"I have no regrets," Leonard said.
Leonard didn't really address Orsborn's question, saying he wants to focus on the new chapter in his life.
"I want to focus on this team, this journey that we have in front of us today and just say in the present time and not look back," Leonard ended.
Another former Spur, Danny Green, poked fun at Leonard and said he should've known the Spurs drama was going to come up. Green was more receptive to Orsborn's presence and even said, "What's up, Tom?"
Monday's media day
was the first time Leonard publicly addressed the Spurs drama since being traded to Toronto. That is,
unless you count his laughable goodbye letter to San Antonio
users are joking it's also the first time Leonard has ever laughed. Earlier in the media day, Leonard said he was a "fun guy" and said reporters needed to ask more questions for him to show that. Then, he let out a laugh that was a bit ... robotic.
Leonard's optimistic comments precede what is expected to be a one-season stay in Toronto. Leonard has one year left in his contract and is expected to next move to Los Angeles, most likely to the Lakers. Though he still isn't committing to Toronto past his one-year deal, he's putting in the effort San Antonio missed last season.
"I want to play here. As long as I have on the jersey, I am going to play basketball," Leonard said. "I came here with an open mind."
up Leonard's sentiment and offered a few words on his teammate, "His main focus is basketball, and he loves it. He puts in the work, and that's the reason why he is as good as he is. We are expecting big things from him."
