One of San Antonio’s most beloved community spots, Woodlawn Lake Park is set to celebrate its Centennial this weekend. That’s right: for 100 years now, generations of San Antonians have made Woodlawn Lake their own, shaping it and being shaped by it.

Even if you’ve never played a pick-up basketball game, walked a few laps, sailed the fabled waters, attended a picnic or party or pachanga, even if you’ve never taken your kids to the playground, or hit up a festival, or paid much attention to the cherished public space at all – Woodlawn Lake is as much a part of our collective consciousness as any landmark of social/cultural import.

All are invited to a special Friday night celebration of the place. The anniversary party will include mariachis, food trucks, fireworks and a 7:30pm screening of Coco, with Spanish subtitles. Fun for the whole family and a chance to pay respects to a bright spot in our cultural memory? Count us in.

Free, Fri Oct. 12, 6:30-9pm, Woodlawn Lake Park, 1103 Cincinnati Ave., (210) 207-7275, sanantonio.gov/parksandrec.
