As we find ourselves nearing the midpoint of October, with fall finally starting to feel like itself, we are also roughly halfway through Museum Month. In other words: you haven’t completely missed your chance to get some extra culture in your life, on the cheap.
For this second annual installment of Museum Month — a beautifully simple concept that can potentially have significant positive impacts on SA’s cultural institutions and the public alike — there’s even more incentive than last year to get in on the edifying action.
Here’s how it works: members of any of the thirteen participating institutions are offered free admission to all of them throughout the month. So, if you, like many of us, were forced by financial realities to choose (for instance) between a membership at the San Antonio Museum of Art and The Institute of Texan Cultures — you can still have access to both, and eleven other institutions, for the rest of this month. It’s a sweet deal, and one you’d have to be crazy not to take full advantage of.
The participating institutions are Artpace, Blue Star Contemporary, Briscoe Western Art Museum, The DoSeum, McNay Art Museum, San Antonio Art League & Museum, San Antonio Missions National Historical Park, San Antonio Museum of Art, Southwest School of Art, UTSA Institute of Texan Cultures, Villa Finale: Museum & Gardens, and the Witte Museum.
Not a member of any of these institutions yet? Then, this is the perfect moment to pony up some dough, do yourself a favor, and do some good for the community in the process.
Aside from the free admission to participating institutions, Museum Month also features a slew of events that don't (in most cases, at least) require membership to anything. See museummonthsa.org
