Since the chandelier first crashed onto the stage in 1986, The Phantom of the Opera has left an indelible mark on theater culture worldwide. Now a touring company mainstay, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s adaptation of Gaston Leroux’s 1910 novel transforms the modern theater into a haunted Parisian opera house for each performance, an effect that will certainly be amplified when the curtain opens under the Majestic Theatre’s gilded proscenium.

The latest touring production, under the direction of Cameron Mackintosh, pulls out all the bells and whistles, using special effects to evoke maximum effect in the musical’s many famous moments. Faithful fans of Webber’s original vision will be glad to see that the effects only seek to amplify — not overshadow — the original story. Come for the sparks, and stay for the “Music of the Night.”
