In Southtown news, Friendly Spot owners Jody and Steve Newman recently hired on chef Scott Boone to run the bar's kitchen. Formerly with 20Nine Restaurant & Wine Bar, Boone has expanded the menu while keeping all of the menu items under $10.
New items were rolled out on Monday and include house-made salmon cakes, French bread pizza, loaded chili fries, hummus, a bacon-wrapped bratwurst sandwich and pulled pork sliders, along with revamped veggie quesadillas, fish tacos, a burger and nachos.
"We spent nine months looking for the right person," Jody said about the process that involved interviewing dozens of chefs. "Scott is all about quality and fresh food at a low price."
Boone was asked to create vegetarian items (some of which are also available in vegan form), inside what Jody described as a teeny kitchen "the size of a child's bedroom."
