I find that much like prolific Jaliscos, there's always room for one more pizzeria. Lucky for the Lo Bro area, SoBro Pizza Co. has finally opened its doors at 1915 Broadway, #101 inside the Mosaic apartments.
Owned by Mon and Gerry Shirley of Mon's Thai and Paul Hughes of the now-closed Park Motel Cafe, Sobro Pizza held a soft opening last Friday to an eager group of pizza-eaters.The space is well curated with tall ceilings, marble counter tops, an eye-catching wood-burning oven and a relaxed vibe.
The menu is broken down into antipasti, salads, soups and sandwiches ($8-$10, served 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.), calzones (or sobrohs), and of course, pizza. The 'zas are broken down into reds, whites and greens and so far, the offerings seem promising. The Margherita had a zippy red sauce and uber-melty cheese and the "FIGJAM" pie featured sweet figs, tangy gorgonzola, prosciutto (always a win) and mountains of arugula. The prices vary from $12 to $19.
Sobro will also carry drinks, gelato ($4-$7) and an extensive wine list available by the glass and bottle. Beer fans, the lineup again looks pretty promising with current beers on tap including Shiner's White Wing, Perroni, Kronenburg 1664, Brooklyn Lager, and Sculpin IPA, priced anywhere from $5-$10.
Sobro is open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday-Thursday and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday-Saturday (this may change this week due to Fiesta's two final parades).
