Sasha Petraske passed away Friday, August 21.
The cocktail world is still navigating the absence of the late Sasha Petraske, a consultant and bartender who helped develop the concept for Bohana's Bar and co-founded the San Antonio Cocktail Conference
. Petraske died on Friday, August 21 at 42.
To honor his memory, bars around the globe will make and toast daiquiris at 9 p.m. on Monday night. A favorite of Petraske, the daiquiris are not the sugar-filled frozen patio pounders, but instead a light 'tail with 1 1/2 ounce white rum, 1/2 ounce simple syrup and one ounce lime juice. Simple, shaken with ice and strained into a coupe. No bullshit.
Locally, Bohanan's Bar
(219 E. Houston St., 210-472-2600) will host The Milk & Honey Hour (named after his lauded NYC bar), while Juniper Tar
(244 W. Houston St., 210-249-6821) owner Matty Gee will mix daqs with Jason Kosmas of Employees Only that same evening. Both were longtime friends and colleagues of Petraske.
Gee, who described Petraske as the Johnny Appleseed of cocktails knew the late bartender for 15 years.
"It's a horrible loss, but he impacted a lot of people and careers here...he was really an amazing ambassador for San Antonio, who cared for the city and the bartending community."
