Attagirl Is Hosting Its First Pop-Up this Monday

Two young whippersnappers are hosting the first-ever pop-up at Cullum's Attagirl (726 E. Mistletoe Ave., 210-437-4263). The R&O Supper Club, comprised of Matt Garcia and Brandon Wright, will take over the chicken house on Monday, October 12 from 4 to 10 p.m. Themed "Not Your Grandma's Kitchen" the evening will feature the young cooks making home-cooked meals much like the ones your grandma would whip up.

Think Luby's and you're halfway there.

"Since both Brandon and I's grandmas have 'retired' from cooking this also a way for us to cook and share the foods we miss the most," Garcia said of the concept.

The menu will feature salisbury steak with a mushroom demi-glace, square fish and tartar, broccoli with cheese casserole, fermented sautéed green beans, mashed/baked potato bar and Jell-O.

If you can't make it to Attagirl on Monday, the duo mans the Saturday Caribbean lunch specials at The Cookhouse (720 E. Mistletoe Ave., 210-320-8211), where they both work. The menu, available from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., varies, but usually features a $15 Irie Plate of oxtail stew or Jamaican Jerk pork belly with pigeon peas and a Caribbean meat pie, and a la carte items.
