Nectar Wine Bar and Ale House is hosting a Bingo night with a wine theme that is only fitting for the adorable storefront that opened last year off of Broadway. The game night takes place Tuesdays at 7 p.m., and it involves a twist on your regular bingo card: fun prizes and tons of great sips and bites.
Just like any other game night, it goes without saying that if you want to ensure you can participate and get a good seat, you need to arrive early. At Nectar Wine Bar, this rule should be adhered to because once they run out of bingo cards here, they are out. The cards are doled out on a first-come, first-served basis to the first 25 players that decide to participate in the game. If you happen to be the 26th participant, then your name goes on a waiting list for the first available bingo card. However, cards only get cycled through when people decide to leave the venue or willingly forfeit their card.
If you happen to get there with plenty of time to enjoy the contemporary ambiance of Nectar and get a bingo card, then you are in for a night of fun. In Wine-o Bingo, instead of marking of a "G 55" space on cards, patrons get to mark off "E Cabernet Sauvignon" while clinging to the hope of marking off four more spaces and being able to shout out BINGO!, or Wine-O, in this case.
While listening for the correct letter and wine varieties to be called out to complete your bingo, you can take advantage of the great happy hour deal that Nectar features all night on Tuesdays. With 15 percent off wine and beer all day, I decided to take advantage of the deal by ordering a glass of pinot grigio and a bruschetta for myself while keeping tabs on my card.
There are a variety of different menu options offered, and while I didn’t order them all, I got glimpses of plates that other guests enjoyed, and I have to say, it doesn’t look like there is a single bad thing coming out of that kitchen. Whether you want salad, soup, charcuterie or hummus, Nectar has it all — including chocolate truffles (brought in from Schakolad Chocolate Factory next door) for those of us that have a sweet tooth.
There is plenty to indulge in while listening to the Wine-o host, Frank, call out the bingo numbers (wines?) that are printed on corks in the Wine-o bag. Though I went winless that evening, the prizes (if you are one of the lucky wine-o winners) consist of various different items of entertainment, ranging from cups with cute sayings like 'Hubby' and 'Wifey' to tiki cocktail stirrers to classy decorative lamps.
Visit soon though, as Wine-O Bingo will go on a short hiatus to accommodate the semiannual restaurant week starting August 13. The Culinaria
restaurant week offerings will consist of a three-course menu (with wine pairings for an additional charge) and will run through August 27. After that the Wine-O and wine tastings resume with their weekly occurrences.
