Nominate Your Favorite Chingona In Advance of La Botanica's First-Ever Chingona Fest

La Botanica will celebrate all things mujer with the first-ever Chingona Fest on Friday, September 16 and Saturday, September 17. The two-day event, organized by Cristina Martinez, Denise Hernandez, Bonnie Cisneros and Rebel Mariposa, will feature "pláticas, música, arte, workshops, sustenance, zines, poesia and dance party" but it'll also feature the Chingona Awards, a celebration of women across trades and disciplines throughout San Antonio.

Nominating is easy, and the categories, found here, are both empowering and quirky. Nominate for Chingona Scholar ("She puts the "chola" in scholar"), Chingonita ("That up and coming, still growing powerhouse of girl"), Curandera/Healer ("After a limpia with her, no one can mess with you"), Social Media Butterfly ("She who rocks those posts like no other") and 17 more categories of that nature. Nominations are up through 5 p.m. today (Friday, September 9) and voting will begin soon after.

Tickets to Chingona Fest ($12 for a single day, $20 for both) are available through

2911 N. St. Mary's St., (210) 716-0702.
