Queso is serious business, y'all. And this November yours could be crowned numero uno.

Christian Assistance Ministry is hosting a fundraiser on November 11 from 2:30 to 5 p.m. that will ask queso makers — both restaurant and homecooks alike — if their cheese-dip can take the heat. Contestants willing to put their queso creation to the test can do so with a $25 entry fee (entry forms here), and area restaurants such as Casa Rio, Quarry Hofbrau, Ritas on the River will have to bring it in order to sway celebrity judge Lisa Fain. Also known as The Homesick Texan, Fain will also be signing copies of her latest cookbook, Queso, a fun, recipe-filled hardcover dedicated to all things cheesy.

General admission is $5 and a donation of either a bag of rice or beans. VIP tickets ($25) are available for pre-sale and include a VIP area, special refreshments and CAM's Fiesta Medal.

"Rice and beans are items that are hard to keep in stock, but can also be stretched a long way in soups or stews," said CAM Executive Director Dawn White-Fosdick. "It's a good stretching item."
