Alfajores and chocolate domes are coming back to the Pearl in 2018. Made by pastry students of the Culinary Institute of America-San Antonio, the treats will be available in the new location for the CIA Bakery Café — Nao.
First opened in 2011 at the spot now used by Lick Honest Ice Creams, the CIA Bakery Café is known for its fresh bread loaves, buttery croissants and beautiful desserts as well as being completely student-led. The original shop closed in 2013 but has made regular comebacks as student bakers make their way through their courses.
Though a menu for the latest iteration inside Nao isn't available yet, CIA-San Antonio Managing Director April Goess says one will be finalized within the next two weeks and will likely include all the hits from previous years. The Bakery Cafe returns January 28 through April 12 and will open be Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Additional closings include February 19–20, March 5, and March 30.
