There's more boba to go around these days. Introducing Tropic Cup, your new spot to get boba tea and other desserts like chè, homemade yogurt and flan. Tropic Cup’s been open for a little over a week now and owner Alex Do hopes customers enjoy the ambience he is trying to create.
Tropic Cup adds a cool, minimalistic, tropical vibe for your feasting pleasure. The menu consists of boba, milk foam teas and chè, a Vietnamese dessert which can include a mixture of beans, pandan jelly, coconut milk nuts, shaved ice and sticky rice. There are six variations of the dessert with options offering jackfruit, lychee, longan (a cousin of lychee), red tapioca and palm seed, but customers are welcome to ask questions to find out their best choice. Do says they’ll eventually expand the menu to sell Japanese-style crepes, shaved ice and bubble waffles. There are also plans to include protein shakes for that post-workout replenishment.
While there are the traditional flavors of milk tea and original smoothie flavors like taro, strawberry, mango and watermelon, Do also created a part of the menu called the Tropic Cup Signature line that is unique to the store, though he recommends trying the milk foam tea. For just 50 cents you can add a creamy white topping to your tea, it’s a different experience where you sip the drink and it slowly mixes the foam topping with the smooth tea below creating a different sensation. Boba, fruit bits, fruit jellies and aloe vera are also available as mixers.
For now, Do and co. are still experimenting on ice cream flavors like matcha and Thai tea.
The space seats about 35 people with plenty of tables and chairs for people to enjoy their goodies or get some work done. Prices range from $3.75-$7.
