The San Antonio Museum of Art's Hops Building is getting a new lease on life. Not content with heading north to Austin to open Chispas,
a tacos/margs joint, Jason Dady is relocating one of his longstanding restaurants further south along the San Antonio River.
The chef spilled the beans on the move for Tre Trattoria, which hopes to open mid-June, via email. Here's his statement:
"After almost a decade at Broadway and Hildebrand, we have found a new home. We are beyond excited to be a part of the River Reach project and also be able to stay close to our very loyal clients that have made Tre Trattoria an amazing place for so long. We do not anticipate much of a break in business and are excited to begin a new chapter in the Tre story. I’ve always said that restaurants have expiration dates and you have to know before it expires to switch it up, freshen it up and stay focused on the future."
He continued with a nod to chef Andrew Weissman, who announced the closing of Il Sogno last Friday.
"Chef Weissman this week said that restaurants are like 'Seasons' and I agree completely. This is just a start of a new Season for Tre and one that will continue to showcase wonderful Tuscan-inspired cuisine."
Signature dishes, such as the antipasto, fresh pastas, gnocchi and the flatbread, cast iron pizzas, will stay, but guests should prepare for a version of the menu with new items.
Previously, the space has been occupied by a collection of pop-ups including Wild Beast by the Empty Stomach Group, La Boulangerie and most recently Sketch at the Museum,
a concept by CommonWealth Bakery, in 2016.
No date was given for the last day of service at Tre Trattoria's original location, but Dady's posts gave a vague "few weeks left" before the move.
