Four more states have reported E. coli food poisoning linked to an ongoing investigation by the CDC
This spring, an E. coli outbreak affecting growers in Yuma, Ariz., led to massive recalls on romaine lettuce, which is primarily grown in that region. To date, 29 states have the reported food poisoning of 149 people with 64 hospitalizations.
The organization is cautioning restaurants to stop serving romaine unless they're sure it's not coming from said region,
while warning consumers to "not eat or buy romaine lettuce if you do not know where it was grown. This advice includes whole heads and hearts of romaine, chopped romaine, baby romaine, organic romaine, and salads and salad mixes containing romaine lettuce. If you do not know if the lettuce in a salad mix is romaine, do not eat it."
Symptoms of the bacteria-borne infection include diarrhea that can be bloody, severe stomach cramps, and vomiting.
