New Helotes Bakery Will Open with Macro-Friendly Sweets

A chocolate almond muffin started it all for Audrey Ayala, owner of Barbell Sweets, which is set to open its first location in Helotes this Saturday, September 29.

The small shop will host a grand opening celebration at 10 a.m. with samples, a DJ and plenty of favorites including the chocolate almond muffin, carrot cake muffin, and brownies. Cold brew and drip coffee, billed "Rise and Grind" at Barbell Sweets will also be available.

"We wanted to offer universal treats that satisfy a sweet tooth within fitness goals," Ayala said.

Ayala, a personal trainer, first started sharing the Macro-friendly sweets with her clients after sessions less than two years ago. Macro-friendly means the snacks are high in protein and low in carbohydrates and rich in healthy fats. The shop will also feature a few new treats including keto cookies, energy bites, and protein peanut butter cups.

The opening will run until 4 p.m. Saturday.
