Back for an 11th year in a row, La Gran Tamalada is once again throwing the biggest tamal-making party at Historic Market Square.

Put on by Guadalupe Cultural Arts (where the event was held for nine years) and La Familia Cortez, La Gran Tamalada is part education, part conservation of tradition.

This year's event on December 8 will run from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and include a tamal-making workshop, tamales for purchase from tamal vendors, and children's activities in Centro de Artes such as storybook reading, corn husk doll decorating and photo ops with Pancho Claus provided by the San Antonio Public Library.

The event is family-friendly and free.
