The San Antonio burger-loving community is still coming to terms with the loss of Bob Riddle, the Big Bob's Burgers
owner who passed away on Friday, October 12.
Riddle, known for his boisterous personality and a penchant for service, will be honored with a Celebration of Life party on Wednesday, October 17 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Big Bob's Burgers on Hildebrand Ave.
The event will feature tents in the parking lot to accommodate the number of people expected, live music, and portions of the proceeds will benefit the Texas Lyme Disease Association and The Children’s Shelter of San Antonio, both of which were near and dear to Riddle's heart. Casey Roy, a local businesswoman who's helping organize the festivities, only met Riddle recently.
"We would love for this to be one of those things that mimics what he did as far as sharing and giving," Roy said.
The party will serve as a time for camaraderie and fellowship for all the people Riddle touched to come together and reflect on his life.
"We want everyone from any and all walks to join because there are so many people that loved Bob. We want everyone hanging out and cheering each other on, that's the spirit of the night," Roy said.
Riddle first opened Big Bob's Burgers on Harry Wurzbach before relocating the beloved burger spot to Hildebrand and San Pedro. Riddle was an alumnus of the Culinary Institute of America-Hyde Park, and was the opening chef at San Remo Italian Ristorante in Castle Hills, before opening Podna's Catfish and Po'boys.
Riddle was known in the community for his service to nonprofits, schools and the like. Since his passing at the age of 50 this past Friday, hundreds tributes and notes have been shared from across San Antonio from friends, previous employees and people he welcomed into his restaurant, or helped fundraise with including The Elf Louise Christmas Project.
As for the restaurant, Big Bob's Burgers will continue to operate during regular times. So many restaurants, so little time. Find out the latest San Antonio dining news with our Flavor Friday Newsletter.
