If you're from the South Side of San Antonio, you know that Mama Margie's is part of the culture. One Harlandale student recognized just that in her on-point costume for "character day" as part of the school's spirit week.

Ahead of the Frontier Bowl between Harlandale and McCollum high schools on Friday night, Harlandale High School students are encouraged to show their spirit before the showdown. There's a day to dress up in the style of your favorite decade, a day to twin it up with your bestie, a jinx day to dress up in cowboy gear, maroon out day with war paint and headdresses, and a day to dress up as your favorite character.

Senior Alissa Trevino decided to pay homage to a South Side character, and ended up winning character day at school โ€“ and on Twitter. She dressed up as Mama Margie, even though it just sort of happened by accident.

"Last week's pep rally was fiesta-themed and I didn't have much time to do my hair," Trevino said. She said she had her outfit set and slicked back her hair, but said her 'do made her look like the iconic caricature.

"I was telling everyone 'I look like the Mama Margie's lady,'" Trevino said. "So when character day rolled around I couldn't pass up the opportunity."

She said she put the costume together by wearing a blouse she had and went thrifting for a white skirt. She even got a red apron from the woman who made her mum for Frontier Bowl (how puro is that?) and used yellow party streamer to cover up the hot pink of her Nike sandals.

Here's how it turned out.
Naturally, everyone who saw Trevino's costume really loved it.

"All the feedback I've been getting is really great," she said. "I'm so glad everyone loved it. I wasn't only trying to dress up as Mama Margie but represent the culture of San Antonio."

Here's what Twitter users had to say.
