Originally an instrumental project exploring the intersection of Colombian folklore and electronic music, Bogotá’s Bomba Estéreo arrived at its distinct sound when founder Simón Mejía invited vocalist Liliana Saumet to collaborate on a song on the LP Vol. 1. She’s now a permanent member and her elastic voice leads the group’s danceable excursions in Afro-Colombian champeta, Peruvian chicha, dancehall, dub, and electro-cumbia. Whether singing ethereally or rapping ferociously, Saumet’s a big part of what makes Bomba tick. After exploding in 2009 with the aptly titled Blow Up (powered by the single “Fuego”), the quartet was crowned Best New Band in the World by MTV Iggy in 2010. The folkloric futurists headline the Pearl’s Échale series with support from Colombia’s M.A.K.U. Sound System. Free, 7pm Friday, Pearl Park Amphitheater, 200 E Grayson, (210) 212-7260, atpearl.com.
