Since its debut show this past April, Thump has quickly established itself as SA’s go-to event for enthusiasts of electronic music, DJ culture, strobe lights, and bumping and grinding alike. Appropriately led by SA’s chief electronic ambassador Ernest Gonzales, the monthly first Friday showcase will relocate to Limelight on the last day of May (the party will surely run into June). Austin’s Boombaptist, a ’90s hip-hop disciple with a sound anchored in the throwback soul of Madlib and J Dilla, will share the headliner spot with Gonzales, who will perform as his laptop luchador alter ego Mexicans With Guns. (Gonzales also just posted a cryptic message possibly hinting at a MWG record in the works, so listen for new material in his set.) Sets by the Alamo City’s own Lizarazo and JT Moneez & Rivera will open the night. $5-$10, 10pm Friday, Limelight, 2718 N St Mary’s, thelimelightsa.com.
