Everyone has been giving Beck a hard time. It’s been four years since anyone has heard a proper followup to the guero superstar's 2008 album Modern Guilt. However the wait is now over. Rolling Stone recently reported that he’s working on “a previously announced acoustic album plus another album that the source describes as the proper follow-up to Modern Guilt.” All the old school circa mid 90’s fans may now breathe a collective sigh of relief as the acoustic album has been described as “a small-bore, self- contained work along the lines of 1994’s One Foot in the Grave.”
To start things off, he has released a single, titled “Defriended.” In the single, Beck’s throaty vocals are delayed, creating an almost call and response style, as it shifts around between a cathartic acoustic ballad to a bombastic synth- pop confection. Even fans of Mount Kimbie, or Jai Paul may find some awkward fondness for the distant ambient wash.
Think that’s it? According to Rolling Stone, there will be another standalone single to serve as a follow-up to “Defriended.” He will also be touring across the East coast in late July to early Augustwith the legendary storyteller Bob Dylan, Wilco, and Ryan Bingham.
