Whether you call it noise rap, industrial hip-hop, or freaky-urban, the music of Arizona’s Moodie Black (pictured) is sublime in a deeply unsettling kind of way. Well-crafted and apocalyptic lyrics hover over and in between smoggy clouds of racket, like the rapture of decay that calls to mind nothing more than the screeching jolts of the postmodern city’s vast machinery. Like the relatively few other artists who work in this unique genre, Moodie Black’s live performance is a punishing experience that shocks people with dissonance and sheer volume. While not for the faint of heart, this show is something you’ll never forget and a very interesting study in the melding of two genres with common dystopian narratives. The evening will also feature (among others) local hip-hop act Chisme, who will be celebrating the start of their tour. $5-$10, 9pm, Limelight, 2718 N St. Mary's, (210) 995-7229.
