If you haven't noticed, San Antonio is once again in the midst of welcoming a spillover of buzzy bands flooding Austin for SXSW. Along with ††† (Crosses), Against Me!, Miniature Tigers, Bear Hands and Calabrese, the adorable Portland-based dream-pop outfit Wild Ones (above) is high on the list of acts you should strongly consider checking out. Released in 2013, the group's debut LP Keep it Safe has been described as a "mix of buoyant synth-pop and familiar indie-rock" (Spin) and "emotionally rich, guilt-free pop music" (Portland Monthly). Regarding their stopover in the Alamo City before playing with "a bunch of hometown pals" at The Portland Party in Austin, keyboardist Thomas Himes told the Current, "Hopefully we'll be bragging to them about our awesome show in San Antonio and how we high five'd Tim Duncan after our set. Actually, we're gonna keep coming back until we make that a reality!"
Wild Ones featuring La Femme, In the Valley Below, July Talk, Brian Marquis, NGHBRS, Lowell and Step Rockets: $13-$17, doors at 7pm, The Korova, 107 E Martin, (210) 995-7229, twinproductions.frontgatetickets.com.
