The driving principle of Lil B's work is the based life: a philosophy of doing exactly what, how and when you want something done. As the BasedGod, Lil B is the alpha and omega of all things based, hyping the lifestyle on his positive energy Twitter page and releasing songs like "Lil B Explains the Ocean."
It's an elusive concept, about as hard to explain as the merits of his music. But one of the easiest ways to digest anything based is to understand that it's simultaneously dead serious and a total joke. So as a Spurs fan, there's no contradiction in lauding Kevin Durant's Mother's Day speech or grace in the lane while screaming along to Lil B's out-of-tune hook on "Fuck Kevin Durant."
The BasedGod's curse
The Lil B-KD feud began when Durant mistakenly called out the BasedGod on Twitter, saying, "I tried to listen to Lil B and my mind wouldn't let me do it. Can't believe this guy is relevant."
Poor KD. Though the curse was technically lifted in 2012, Lil B returned in March of 2014 with "Fuck Kevin Durant." With an average of 22.67 ppg in the Western Conference Finals, Durant hasn't truly claimed his regular season MVP status against the playoffs Spurs, but with Serge Ibaka back on the floor KD and OKC are doing their best to upend the BasedGod's curse.
