Deer Vibes (Michael Carrillo pictured singing)
San Antonio indie orchestra Deer Vibes are crowdsourcing the funding for their debut LP via IndieGoGo. Led by multi-instrumentalist Michael Carrillo, Deer Vibes have been active in SA since 2009, gigging on the success of their huge, multi-faceted sound. And now, Michael Carrillo and company are asking fans to donate towards the recording of their first album at El Paso's Sonic Ranch.
Crowdsourcing, or crowdfunding, has become an increasingly common method for artists to garner a budget for their projects. In 2014, SA musicians Erik Sanden and Nicolette Good both achieved their project goal (for crowdfunding, a project only recieves the cash if they reach or surpass the posted amount).
Deer Vibes look to raise $2,600 to record their record. Thus far, they've received a little over ten percent and have 21 days until the deadline. Perks include a private listening party, a house show and a hardcopy of the record for various levels of donation. For a paltry $1, you can tie Carrillo to a tree in San Pedro Park for 1 minute. Donations can be made here.
