LA love child Andreas Cary AKA Snow Wite, the dynamic, eccentric and multi-instrumentalist rocker, is embarking on his appropriately (and deliciously) named Tex-Mex Tour.
Snow Wite is ready to rock the stage again with his sweet, cavity inducing pop rock jams with a twist of bitchin' guitar onslaughts. Back in March, he was the first artist to christen the stage at the Paper Tiger's inaugural event.
On his September Nina Pop release Dry Humping Stage Monitors I Am An Indestructible Master, Cary finds himself transcending towards eclectic club music, a departure from his rock 'n' roll roots that keeps his fans' thirst for power pop quenched.
I caught up Snow Wite over the phone right before his departure to discuss his new album and single "Kitty Calico."
What about San Antonio draws you in?
I really like coming to San Antonio. I mean, this is like the fourth or fifth time that I’ve played out there and it’s been such a good response toward my project from the local press and people. When I go back people remember me. It seems like it’s a city that’s really hungry for something new and I really appreciate it. It’s good to be in a place where you’re wanted and loved.
Is that why you have a whole tour dedicated to Texas?
The thing about playing Texas is that people really respond to live music and really pay attention to it. There’s a lot of great music out in LA, but sometimes it seems more social rather than the actual music. But that’s what I like about Texas is when you do something original, people see what you’re doing and someone’s going to be into it. They’ll stay from the beginning to the end of your set and care about what’s going on. And that’s kind of why we’re doing this as artist[s] so people can enjoy it. That’s what it’s for.
Tell me more about Nina Pop, a label you’ve recently been working with.
Nina Pop is run by Adam Schwarz, a DJ and producer from Baltimore who’s recently moved to LA. Nina Pop is mostly a club label, so it’s interesting to me because I’ve been a rock artist my whole career, but my music’s been changing a lot and I’m drifting away from the rock scene, because it’s not the scene I hang out with. My new record is still like a rock record. It has guitars on it, but not every song has guitars. There are a lot of synths, samples, drum breaks and things that are more associated with club music. It’s hard to find peers doing what I’m doing, because I’m trying to blend a lot of styles. I think of it like the greatest hits in my mind.

What’s the inspiration behind your new single “Kitty Calico?”
The whole song is about crushing, goddess worship, being blinded by love and yearning. It’s like, there’s this girl that you’re all about, but you’re not really sure how to approach it and it takes over your whole head. I would recommend listening to the Mr. Kitty remix while you’re scrolling through your crush’s photos on the web. It’s about complete love by the ultimate woman.
Is songwriting in general a deeply personal experience for you?
The songs are not literal. I used to draw from direct personal experiences, but on my newer album it’s not as literal. I take something that happened and rearranged it into something so believable, it could’ve happened. Every song has a character and it has to come from you in a way. I take the real feelings and put a little story to it.
How did you meet collaborator Mr. Kitty?
Mr. Kitty is a producer and performer out of Austin, Texas. I played at the Alien Body and Cherrybomb SXSW showcase with him and I kept in touch with him. When I was looking for someone to do a remix with, I was like how about Mr. Kitty for “Kitty Calico.” It’s kind of perfect. He took a song that’s a pop rock jam pretty much, the closest thing to old Snow Wite on the album and transforms it into a rave dreamscape.
Is there any significance to the Japanese writing on the “Kitty Calico” artwork?
The Japanese text on the album cover says “an overpowering love may consume you in the end.” I like to pay homage to my Japanese fans. I get a lot of love from japan, so I want to give that back.
